Cotai or Macau Peninsula?
Macao is compact, but the hotel experience differs dramatically by area. Cotai is dominated by very large integrated resorts with casinos, shopping malls, entertainment, restaurants and thousands of hotel rooms. The Macau Peninsula has the historic center, older neighborhoods and long-established casino hotels.
Taipa and Coloane
Taipa Village offers a more walkable food-and-neighborhood experience close to Cotai. Coloane is quieter and includes beaches, village streets and resort-style escapes.
Getting around
Macao has public buses, taxis, light rail and extensive resort-shuttle networks. The Macao Government Tourism Office notes that many casinos operate free direct shuttle buses from border crossings, and tourism “leisure” bus services also connect resorts and visitor areas on selected schedules.

If the integrated resorts are a major part of your trip, read our dedicated Macao casino-resort hotel guide. It compares Cotai with the peninsula and explains transportation, hotel-package and age-entry basics without treating gambling as the only reason to visit.
