Check the airport code, not just the city
Several major Chinese destinations have more than one airport or an airport far from the traditional city center. Beijing uses Capital (PEK) and Daxing (PKX). Shanghai uses Pudong (PVG) and Hongqiao (SHA). Chengdu uses Shuangliu (CTU) and Tianfu (TFU).
When an airport hotel makes sense
- Arrivals after normal metro or airport-rail operating hours.
- Very early departures where a central hotel would require an expensive or stressful transfer.
- Long overnight connections.
- Trips where the airport is also close to a business district or high-speed rail hub.
Questions to ask
- Does the hotel shuttle serve your terminal?
- Is the shuttle included or paid?
- What time is the first and last shuttle?
- Can the hotel accept a late check-in?
- Is breakfast available before your departure?
Airport names and terminal assignments can change; confirm directly with the airline and hotel.
